Over fifty years ago as a freshman at VA Tech, I began reading through the Bible one chapter a day. I wasn’t sure it was true, but I was sure an “educated” person should read it at least once.
Before I had finished reading it, three years later, I was convinced of its truth and had placed my faith In Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior of sinners like me. I began a lifelong habit of reading through the Scriptures usually on an annual basis.
John and Mary Carroll
My life has been full. The Lord blessed me with a wonderful wife, Mary, and three lovely daughters. I was privileged to serve for 28 years as a campus Christian worker with the Navigators in California, South Carolina, The Philippines, and Argentina. After graduation from Columbia International University (M Div), I was called to pastoral ministry in 1995 in the Presbyterian Church in America, serving Central Presbyterian Church in Kingstree, SC and Christ Church in Katy, TX. I also greatly benefited from my studies at Reformed Theological Seminary (Charlotte) which led to a Doctor of Ministry degree. I am currently an honorably retired member of the Blue Ridge Presbytery (Presbyterian Church in America).
In 2011, Mary and I retired and moved back to our family farm in the Blue Ridge mountains where we both grew up. We call it “Thistle Dew Farm” where we are seeking to practice our motto: “Contentment without Complacency.” My favorite current activities include hiking with Mary, teaching a senior adult Sunday School class at Grace Church in Roanoke, frequent trips to visit our 3 daughters and sons-in-love, and 6 grandchildren, exploring historical sites and writing this daily blog.
Thanks for visiting.
